An Alkaline Body Is Key To Good Health – Pre 21 Day Transformation Post 1

Keeping your body in an alkaline state is one of the basic principles I discovered that has really helped me, and is based on the work of Dr. Young.  The principles just seemed to make sense to me,  and by applying them I have strengthened my body from the inside out quite dramatically.   I used to be sick all the time.  I would catch any cold…and it would stay with me for what seemed forever.  If someone was sick near me, I would run away.   I had severe sinus problems frequently. I got sinus infections, red irritated eyes.  Now I seldom, and I mean rarely, get sick (and if I do, it is 1/10th of what I used to get when I get a cold…because I actually get rid of it quickly)…and oh, yeah, it helped me lose 30 pounds.  Basically I feel like it was one of the bigger steps in giving me my life and health back.

So what does it mean to be  alkaline?

One of the people who I consider a mentor is Dr. Young.  He says the ideal blood pH is 7.365.   He believes that when your body gets overly acidic, that is the major cause of many illnesses.  So if you keep a more alkaline body, you will have a healthier body.  I can’t argue with this because since I started living by some of these principles I have felt much healthier.

As well, he says that acid can cause a body to hold on to extra fat.  Fat is used to help protect the body from too much acid.  So if you have excess acid, then the body will create fat cells to carry acids away from vital organs in an effort to protect them.  So in a sense the fat is saving your life..but only if you need it due to overacidity.  So decrease the acidity of your body, and your body will have less reason to hold fat…it can release it.    Again, I can’t argue, because I have lost a good amount of weight since ensuring my body is more alkaline.

Our life styles are very acidic.  Too much stress contributes to an acidic lifestyle.  A poor diet filled with processed foods and sugar contributes to an acidic lifestyle.   We are literally killing ourselves with our lifestyle.

So what can you do?

You can take control of your life and change things that are 100% within your ability to change.

Make your body more alkaline!  Eat a more alkaline diet.  Lots of fresh vegetables, especially green vegetables!  Eat as much as you can raw, and what you can’t eat raw, cook at low temperatures.  Don’t microwave if you can avoid it.  Drink lots of good water.  Decrease your sugar.  Avoid processed foods as much as possible.  Avoid bad salt.  East good salt.  Avoid bad fat.  Eat good fat.  Avoid dairy products as much as possible (there seems to be a huge connection between dairy and sinus problems) Avoid meat if possible. Decrease your coffee, your alcohol.   (I can hear some of you saying…Are you kidding me?  What is left to eat?  Don’t worry there is cornucopia of good things to eat…and you can modify your diet as slowly as you want…it is fully up to you…you are the boss of your body!)

Good Food to Eat #1

Here is one example of a great food to eat to make yourself more alkaline.  Cucumbers.  Cucumbers are said to be 95% water, so they play an important part in helping to hydrate your body naturally…so yes you can actually drink water while eating!  Some initial research shows they may have antioxidant and anti-inflamatory properties.  They are fat free, cholesterol free, salt free.  Cucumbers can be a source of nutrients and minerals.  And as found in www.whfoods.com,  “Cucumbers are now known to contain lariciresinol, pinoresinol, and secoisolariciresinol–three lignans that have a strong history of research in connection with reduced risk of cardiovascular disease as well as several cancer types, including breast, uterine, ovarian, and prostate cancers.”    Funny I used to really detest cucumbers. Just didn’t like them.  But as I educated myself, I began to see how good they were for me, so I tried eating them with a new frame of mind.  Lo and behold, I actually like them now!   Amazing how the more one educates themselves, the different ways things are viewed.

I use cucumbers as my main base in juicing (It is amazing how much nice refreshing green water comes out of them when I juice!). I put them in salads.  I put them on a Subway sub if I have one.  They are delicious, refreshing, they are filled with good water so they help hydrate you, and they are super alkalizing.

I am listing cucumbers first because they are easy to find, relatively cheap to buy, they can be used in a number of ways, they help hydrate your body, and they naturally taste good.  So cucumbers are one of the best foods you can eat.  As you begin to build your list of foods to buy in preparation for the health challenge this is one of them.

Tomorrow I will start to delve more into more specifics of what other foods can heal  (like the cucumber) and what foods can harm you.

Don’t miss it!  And please pass this along to a friend.  In 20 days we are going to help you change your life!

21 Day Health Challenge! Get Ready!

Yesterday I started off the day in a fine fashion!  I went for my “powerwalk” with Shandog, and my energy was on high so we flew through the walk.  When I got home, my wife Liza and I went to see a movie (haven’t done that for a while)…and while there I had some popcorn and m&m almonds (but no pop…lol…day 21 without pop I think).   After that we had a party to go to at a bowling alley for my dear cousin.  Well, we got there, and I was famished because I hadn’t really eaten anything…so I ate a Coffee Crisp chocolate bar.  Then pizza came, and then we top it off with ice cream cake from Dairy Queen (but no pop…lol!)  Healthy food is never handy at these places…you have to prepare…and I was not prepared.

So as I was driving home last night I reflected on my actions (it started off so well…but then slid downhill) and what I ate that day, and I was suddenly overwhelmed with disgust for myself.  I mean I generally eat pretty well, but then it is all too easy to just eat CRAP!  So I decided that when I woke up today, I would officially launch MY 21 day health challenge (for myself).  No more room for wussies!  It was time to just do it!   Yes, I have lost 30 pounds over the past year and a bit…but I plateaued and was just hovering around 220…because I had become satisfied with my accomplishment.  But when I was walking across the bowling alley in a white t-shirt that glowed under the black lights, and I saw my gut pressing out against it I sounded realized that I was not happy where I am!   It is time to go to the next level…down.  And I know that by doing this I will not only lose weight, but I will feel better and better as I detoxify my body…and get more and more energy!

So what I will do is record every detail of my next 21 days, and when those 21 days are over,  I will share those with you.  I also have made a set of coaching/support short videos 2 – 5 minutes long that I will send to those who are interested in changing their lives when they embark on their own health challenge in 3 weeks time! They will get one every day of those 21 days…and then they will continue at a more moderate pace for at the least the next 6 months.  This is for people who are tired of being tired!  Who want to live more to their potential.  Who want to learn how to help themselves heal, and help themselves feel better.  Usually there is a nominal fee for this cool program, but I may let the first group of people do it for free (or at some crazy discount) …  I haven’t made up my mind about that yet.  But I will tell you the coaching is powerful, educational, motivational…and you are MUCH more likely to actually follow though and keep going if you have a partner spending time with you every single day who wants with all their heart to see you succeed!  Having a partner to encourage you when you feel like giving up is priceless.

So over the next 21 days I will begin to prepare you for your own health challenge.  I will start sharing actual food tips…what to eat, what not to eat; what should we drink; snack on; exercises; meditations; what to think about…many tools that will allow you to change your life.  Then I will officially lauch the 21 day Health Challenge for all of you (should you accept this challenge)….and you can share your stories, questions, successes, challenges…every day … and you can have someone with you every step of the way.  I want to share everything I have learned from my mentors over the years that has helped me bring myself back to life, so that you don’t have to go through what I went through.

I weighed in at 222 lbs this am.  I actually don’t do this with the main goal of losing weight…but I know that when I do this I will trim and strengthen my body.  I will also take some measurements of my waist ect, because often the story is told in inches lost, not just weight lost, as you redefine your body.   Get healthier from the inside out!  Be preventative rather than simply trying to treat the problem after it occurs.

Ladies and gentlemen…this is about a life style…a choice of how we live.  We can all do it.  Yes, every single one of us.  Let me be your guide, and together let’s do this!

Make sure you enter your email so that you can get the posts everyday!   And please share this with all your friends.   Let’s get as many people as we can here, so they are ready to embark on the health challenge with you in 21 days time.

Stand Up At Your Desk = Immediate Energy + Better Health!

Stand Up At Your Desk

Feeling sleepy at work?  Want to increase your energy?

Stand up!

I have found no simpler, more effective way to immediately change my state, and energize myself… than to stand up at my desk.

Think about your body posture when you are feeling low on energy.  For me, my shoulders droop, my back slouches, my voice gets quieter.  If you were to look at my aura, you would not describe it as vibrant.

But when I stand up, stretch my muscles, and hold my head up, and smile … you would see an immediate brightening of my aura!  I will feel better, look better, and be more effective at work.

Try it right now!  I’ll bet you are sitting down…so stand up!  Do it!

Roll your shoulders back, and stand up straight.  Put your chin up.  Smile.  Shake our your hands twice.  Roll your neck gently 2 times.  Take a deep cleansing breath.  I’ll bet you $100 you feel a difference!   You have changed your state!!!!

If you deal with people via the phone (customer service, sales, dealing with distributors …anything), stand up while you are talking on the phone.  I often stand up, and pace if I am making outgoing calls.  If you are in sales, people are only going to be 1/2 as enthusiastic as you are…so crank up your enthusiasm!   Put on some peppy music on low in the background.  Are you smiling?  Draw a picture of a smiley face and put it on your wall at eye level.  My outgoing prospecting calls are more than 2x as effective when I get myself fired up on the phone!  When I am really firing on all cylinders I pace and smile and laugh like a maniac!

Finally, something else to thing about…how would you like to add a few more years to your life?

A study published in the journal BMJ Open suggests that if you can limit the time you spend sitting each day to less than 3 hours, you could add a good 2 years to your life! (thanks to www.naturalnews.com) for the heads up.

Stand up at your desk = immediate energy + feel better!

What else can you ask for: feel better, enjoy more success (make more money), and live longer by simply GETTING UP OFF YOUR BUTT more often!! lol!

Try it and post your results.

Blog To Reduce Stress and Increase Happiness!

Just what the heck is a blog?

Sometimes events occur, or issues pop up that hit us hard, that make us think… and if we don’t express them to others they just keep building and building.

We all have to let it out…whatever it is that is stuck in our minds.  This process can be called venting, and although it could erupt in the form of anger and yelling, there are better ways to let it out.   Writing, perhaps in the form of journaling, is one avenue that many people choose.

So expressing what is on your mind can be critical to keeping yourself happy and healthy.

So what does this have to do with a blog?

Well creating a blog can be as simple as just writing down what is on your mind and sharing it with the world.    I have been wanting to share my experiences in bringing myself back to health for years now.  It was always on my mind, and I was growing frustrated because I had not found a tool that I felt would work for me.  And when it struck me that I could have a blog to show people how to reduce toxic stress from their lives and increase their health, happiness and energy…I was overcome with excitement!!!!!

One of the wonders of the blog world is that anyone can do it, and you can blog on any topic that you want!  The only limitations are the ones you place on yourself.  However, some people are intimidated because it seems like such a technical thing.  Blogging?  You mean like having your very own website?  Heck I have trouble adding an attachment to an email!  How could I ever blog?

I will add some tips on blogging  in upcoming posts, but I wanted to share with you a site that I was introduced to that helped me get started, and that I still go to every day to see what new and exciting things he has posted.   www.johnchow.com   John is a master blogger, and from what I have been told one of the best in the world.  Check out his site!

I find the site interesting and exciting.  But the amazing thing is there are lots or articles and tools to help someone get started blogging.  From his site I found a great web host (where you can park your website on the web), I learned about WordPress (the “tools” used to build this website), I learned what many tech terms meant that were alien to me before (heck I even attempted to optimize my SEO last night…lol!…ok so that will take some more work).  John even has a free 59 page document to show you how to monetize your blog.

Got some thoughts you want to share with the world?  Don’t let them just build up inside of you.  Let them out.  Vent in a cool way!  Let the world know what you are thinking.   Blogging can reduce your stress and increase your happiness…why not try blogging yourself!

Sometimes You Need To Do Exactly What You Don’t Want To Do

Have you ever come home from work feeling tired?  Too tired to cook a nutritious meal?  Too tired to exercise?   I certainly have.

At times like those, I have found myself going downstairs, turning on the TV, turning off my mind, and just sitting there like a zombie.  Maybe I had enough energy to bring a big bag of chips with me and a pop.  (and incidentally I am on day 14 with no pop!)  I would sit and snack mindlessly, vaguely hoping it will make me somehow feel better.

It is a vicious cycle.

Come home from work tired.  Don’t eat well, don’t exercise.  Go to bed, wake up feeling a little tired, so grab a doughnut on the way to work.  Sugar rush…feel good.  By 10am coming down a bit…time to buy a chocolate bar.  Sugar rush…feel good.  Lunch time arrives, but you were too tired to pack your nutritious lunch, so you grab a burger, fries and coke…a coke will make you feel better.  It does!  Sugar rush…feel good.  By 3pm you hit the wall, and feel like you need a nap.  Caffeine? Sugar?  Something to pick yourself up…and it works!  Feel good!   On your drive home you start to come down again, and your eyes feel a little droopy.  For sure when you get home you are going to exercise!  But…

Come home from work tired.  Don’t eat well, don’t exercise.  Go to bed , wake up feeling a little tired, so grab a doughnut on the way to work.  Sugar rush…feel good.   AHHHHHHH!

It can be so easy to fall into a rut.  To fall into a vicious cycle.  And the longer you are stuck in it…the harder it becomes to break out.

But break out you must!!!

I have been there before.  And years ago one cycle lasted so long, it almost killed me.

You must break out of your rut.

The purpose of this blog is to share with you the things I have learned in my quest to bring myself back to life.   Ladies and gentlemen,  this is one of those things!   And the problem is it is like a Ninja Assassin.  It can sneak up on you with the ultimate stealth.   You must be on the lookout!!!

You may be young and just starting out in your path in life.   You may feel invincible.  You may currently be in tip-top shape.  You may be a black belt in karate. You may be winning all types of sales awards.  You may be getting promoted rapidly, making more and more money.  You may tell yourself that nothing can bring YOU down.   You may be telling yourself that you ARE the Ninja.  I’ve been there.  I’m just telling you that it when it strikes it is not fun…don’t let it happen to you.

You may be more seasoned.  You may have been around the block, and you look at this and say to yourself that this will never happen to you.  The problem is that it could happen to anyone if they are not careful.

Don’t take your health for granted.  I did.

Pay now … or pay later

Sometimes the thing that you need to do is the very last thing you feel like doing.

.Note:  This post is extra-personal to me, and I feel it is so important.  Please pass this on to someone if you think they need to hear this.  Peace, Health, and Happiness, Tony.

Passion! Find Yours And Increase Your Happiness

My full-time occupation is that of a financial advisor, and I am super energized to take this business to the next level.  I really enjoy helping people with their money, I enjoy teaching them about it, aiming to protect it and grow it, and I am told I am good at it.   I also have tremendous fun doing this blog in my spare time, doing Reiki, helping people decrease their stress, transform their lives, find their passion,  increase their health, happiness and energy.  I dearly want to help people.

But what I ADORE, what I simply LOVE, that I do just for PASSION’S sake…is coaching youth sports.

 What are YOU passionate about?

At times I think about this day and night.  I may draw up plays in between clients during the day.  At times I have woken up at 2am to create my next practice, because I am so excited about what I am going to teach the kids the next day.  No matter how hectic or tough my day might have been…when I get out on the soccer field or the basketball court, and get to work with those awesome kids…everything else melts away…everything is good!

What has the POWER to take you away, to melt your stress?

I am the luckiest man in the world because I get to do something that I am so passionate about.  I get to help these kids not only become better athletes, but I get to teach them about life; how to never give up; how it doesn’t matter if you win or lose, but it  does matter that you give it your best; about how you should believe in yourself, don’t let fear or doubt stop you from going for it.  I get to help these kids do things they didn’t think they could do!  I get to help prepare these kids for school, for work, for life.  And I do it all just to see a smile.  A lot of smiles.  There is nothing better than knowing I gave it everything I had, and I helped transform some lives.

What inside you makes you SHINE?

No one outside of my immediate family knows this, but when I was really sick, when I had so little energy, I put my life into energy conservation mode.  I didn’t talk much, I didn’t smile much, I didn’t move much…because I knew it would deplete my energy.  If I had practice that day,  I tried to preserve my energy as much as I could on that day…so that when I got on that court I could give 90 minutes of everything I had to those kids and their parents, and then go home and crawl into bed, exhausted, but happy.   I did it for them yes.  But they helped to give me my life back.  They gave me a reason to keep going when I felt too tired.  They gave me something to which I truly looked forward to.

What can you do that will give you STRENGTH to draw on when you are feeling down or having a rough day?

One of the major benefits for me, is that the happiness that it adds to my life, flows over to my work.  It helps me smile more during the day, it helps me have more energy with my clients, and provide a higher level of customer satisfaction.

What is your passion?  What would you do for free for a few hours a week in your spare time?  What would keep you up at night because you are just so excited about it?

It is a hard question for some.  In January I flew down to see a weekend seminar by Joel Bauer (www.JoelBauer.com), called Passion2Profit.  And it was wonderful.  I also then attended an 8 day seminar of his called Profit Point, and it was spell binding.  It helped me get the courage to finally lauch this part of my passion and help educate people about re-energizing themselves, and bringing themselves back to life!

What would you do for free for even an hour a month that would ignite your passion, that would set your inner self on fire?  Pick up that guitar you used to play?  Plant an amazing garden?   Cook a gourmet meal?

Passion has the power to take away stress or sadness.  If you are having a tough day, just thinking about your passion, can take you away for a few moments, clear out the gloom, and reset your mindset to an energized one!

It doesn’t matter what it is for you, what does matter is to try to identify it, and then bring it into your life.

Question:   What is your passion?  Let us know.  Maybe together we can help you fulfill it!

Why The Uproar About Pop?

You may have heard in the news recently that the State of New York was trying to ban restaurants from serving large containers of pop (greater than 16 oz).  Is this really worthy of headlines on national news stations and newspapers.

In one word, I will say “YES”!

For much of my life I was a popoholic, and proud of it.  Pop went with pizza. Pop went with burgers.  At the theatre popcorn needed a HUGE pop.  Watching football on Sunday needed chips…and of course pop.  If it was hot, I needed pop.  If I was tired I needed pop.  It just tasted so good, it gave me energy, it was a beautiful thing!

Of course it tasted good!  Look how much sugar apparently goes into Coke for example.  (I got this picture from http://www.sugarstacks.com/.   I can’t verify the accuracy of anything they post, but it does seem to match a lot of the research I have done…and pictures are worth a thousand words)

         39g                            65g                          108g

Not only is there sugar, but there can be chemicals, preservatives, caffeine, food colouring, and other ingrediants…all sorts of things which are not natural, and that provide very little if any nutritional value.   Pop may help promote tooth decay.  It may be linked to osteoporosis.  It may promote heartburn. It may be linked to an increase in diabetes.  It may contribute to high blood pressure.  It may impair digestion.  Listen, I am not a doctor, but I do know that my body feels better when I am not drinking pop…and I think my body will not only thank me now, but also in the future.  That’s just me, you need to do your own experimentation with your own body and see how you feel.

Statistics show that obesity is growing in our society in leaps and bounds.   Kids are getting more unhealthy by the moment.  Computers keep them in doors and sedentary.  A lot of the foods they eat are highly processed, with little nutritional content…so they have to keep eating more and more because the body is not getting what it is looking for.  And if you top it off with highly sugary beverages…it is a recipe that will ultimately spell dis-ease in the future.

But the great thing is that we can change that.  It is in our control.  As parents, as guardians, as role models.  I believe if we educate ourselves, then pass along that knowledge, we can make a difference.  I know that when I stopped drinking  pop last time, I seemed to shed almost 4 pounds almost instantaneously (and I drank a lot of diet pop in fact) Coincidence?

Please click on this link to see a video I made one week ago, where I pledge to give up pop!    Witness it…hold me accountable…slap me in the head if you ever see me with a pop in my hand again!

My Last Pop Ever – Tony’s Vow!

The fact is that pop appears to put stress on our body in a number of different ways.  Physically it stresses our body, weakening it.  Mentally, if there are sugar rushes and caffeine rushes, this can cause your mood to go up and down and up and down… then that is ultimately exhausting as well.  This blog is about de-stressing yourself.   Why not try eliminating this stressor from your life…your body will thank you.

This blog only talked about regular pops.  In the future I will address diet pops, because from the research I am doing these may be just as bad if not worse in some ways!

Any thoughts you would care to share about your experience with pop?   Care to make the DWP (Days without Pop) pledge?   Let us know what is on your mind!

Powerful Energizing Breathing Exercise

Here is a breathing exercise you are going to love!  I learned this a few years back from one of my earlier mentors Tony Robbins. It will immediately get your energy flowing, so that you will feel more energized, more focused…ready to take on anything!

To start, I want you to look at your hand (either hand will do).  Start at your thumb, then next is your index finger, your middle finger, your ring finger, and ending at your pinky finger.

1) I want you to touch the tip of  your thumb and the tip of your index finger together.

2) Next touch the tip of your thumb and the tip of your middle finger together.

3) Next touch the tip of your thumb and the tip of your ring finger together.

4) Finally touch the tip of your thumb and your pinky finger together.

Repeat that sequence with both hands at the same time.

Now here come the fun part…

Do the sequence once through, and each time you touch your thumb to a finger, breathe in through your nose…so it will be four quick breaths in.

Do the sequence a second time, and each time you touch your thumb to a finger, breathe out through your mouth. …so it will be four quick breaths out.

You will continue doing the sequence, alternating between breathing in and breathing out.

You can practice doing it slower or faster.    If you begin to feel out of breath, or feel light-headed then stop immediately.  Before you begin again, ensure your breathing is back to normal and you feel good and grounded…that there is no sense of being light-headed.

Now here come the super energizing part!

I use this as I begin to exercise…in my case it is usually my walking!   It could just be around your house. Or on a treadmill.  Down by the lake. In the conservation area.  I start walking slowly, doing my breathing exercise, and then once my energy is flowing, I stop the breathing exercise and speed up my walking.   I find it extremely powerful!

Have fun!   And if you do try it…please let us know did it help get your energy moving?!

Walk Away Weight and Worries

Walking has become one of my best friends.

When I was recovering from my heart ailments, I had to give up all the things I used to do. I gave up Karate, because physically I couldn’t do it, and I was warned I could not afford to get hit because of the blood thinners.  I couldn’t run, nor ride my bike, or do anything strenuous.  It left one option…walking.  At first I was depressed because I thought of it as so boring, compared to biking through the trails for example.  But it was the thing that gradually allowed to regain my strength.  And then a funny thing happened…it grew on me…and now walking is one of my favorite things to do!

I have a favorite route that has some nice hills, some beautiful scenery, some big fields where I can let me dog run free, and also some roads where I often say hi to people I know.  I really just started walking with fervour last summer.  I went out on my 90 minute power walk with my dog as often as I could.  Not too long ago I weighed just under 250 pounds, and I am now down to 220.  I still have a lot more I want to cut, but I am happy with the progress.  I have continued again this summer, and having a blast!  Walking is an underdog.  It is underutilized.  It is a great form of exercise.  It gets you outside in the sun and the fresh air.  You can walk slow or go faster if you are feeling it that day.  You can talk with people, you can enjoy the scenery. If I am stressed out or worrying about something, I can usually release it all during my walk and return home feeling a new man. Our civilization does not move enough.  Many of us are too stagnant.  This means our bodies are stagnant, and I find if my body is stagnant then my mind becomes stagnant.  On sunday my daughter and I went to Confederation park and walked by the Lake.  We had great family time together, we had a good talk, we got a couple hours of exercise, and it just made us feel good.  And it was so peaceful.   Here is a quick 30 second video we shot, just so you can hear the beauty of the wind blowing through the trees and the gentle roar of the waves.   How can anything beat that?

walking near lake with sab

My question for you is: Are you moving enough?  Are you getting stagnant?

Love to hear about some of the best walks or places to walk you have done!

Being Thankful Calms the Soul

Sometimes I find myself whining to myself or anyone who will listen.  I may feel sorry for myself for something I don’t have, or because something didn’t work out the way I thought I wanted it to.  Maybe I didn’t get that client I wanted.  Maybe the soccer uniforms aren’t ready yet and we have to trade shirts amongst the girls.  Maybe we don’t have a huge flat screen TV in our house (we still use the one my wife got for a work present 10+ years ago…and it still works).  Maybe they are doing construction on the road on the way to work and I have to use a detour which adds a full 4 – 5 minutes to my drive.

The fact is that though, that although my life is by no means perfect, it is pretty damn good.   Honestly, I could not ask for anything more than where I am, who I am, and to have the people to love and who love me.  I am the luckiest man alive.   I really am.

I was driving with a friend the other day, he seemed to be feeling down, and he was lamenting that his car was not the newest model, he seemed in fact to be apologizing to me.  I thought his car was pretty nice…but I guess it wasn’t the top of the line in his mind.    I allowed myself to get caught up in his sorrow for a second, and the mood in the car became somewhat somber.   I noticed my breathing had shallowed, my face was grimacing a bit, and I immediately began to think of the things I didn’t have. But then a thought struck me and I looked at him and told him that probably  some people would die to be able to have the car he had.  That it was beyond anything they could ever imagine they could have.

We sat in  silence for a few minutes, both deep in thought.  And then he suddenly had a huge grin on his face, and he said that I was right.   That the fact that he even had a car, and had the money to put gas in it, was amazing.  The mood in the car brightened!

One of the things I have learned from my wife over the years is to be thankful.  It is also a Reiki tenet…to show appreciation.    When I am feeling jealous or angry…my body tenses up, my mood is dour.  It is an actual stress on my system.    It leads nowhere except to bitterness and wasted thoughts.  Life can be so short, why bother wasting it with negative thoughts and emotions filling your mind.

I have found that when I practice being thankful, I immediately relax.  My mind clears and my mood brightens!

Before I go to bed each night, I run through everything in the world I am thankful for.   If I am having a stressful day at work, or just feeling unloved, I do the same exercise, right while sitting at my desk (I of course seem like I am staring at my stock screen intensely ready to make some brilliant trade, but I am really mentally going through a list of things I am thankful for).  Without fail it works, every single time. Always.

I am thankful for my health.  I am thankful for my family.  I am thankful for my career.  I am thankful that I get to coach my teams in sports.  I am thankful I have a roof over my head, that there is always food on the table.  I am thankful for air conditioning on a record-setting hot day like today.  I am thankful I can go for long walks with my dog.  I am thankful for my car, it has a sunroof (which I love), and it is the first time I have had one.  I am thankful for my friends.  I am thankful for the mentors in life I have had.    I am thankful I got to see Men Without Hats at Ontario Place with Duane years ago.   I am thankful for the challenging times I have had and the challenging people I have met…because it makes the good times that much better.  I am thankful for my wife’s stir fry.  I am thankful to have been exposed to Reiki.  I am thankful I got so sick years ago, because it forced me to learn about health and how to actually live.  I am thankful for the opportunity to impact people’s lives in a positive way.  I am thankful for the technical support at HostGator.com because it was the best on-line support I have ever had.  I am thankful for the wonderful parents and friends from my sports teams.   I am thankful to be alive.

I am thankful for so many things.

Question for you:  What are you thankful for?     Care to share with us?  I bet you will inspire someone with your answer.
